2023 Holy Week Liturgy | Day 5
Maundy Thursday | A New Covenant
BASED ON LUKE 22:19-20 & 1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-26
Tonight is a special night because we are remembering a special meal.
The meal Jesus gave us.
Is it a time for celebration? Yes!
Is it a time for sadness? Also, yes?
How can it be both?
On the night Jesus was betrayed, he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it.
This is my body given for you.
After supper he took the cup.
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
Pour the red glitter in the jar
The new covenant is a promise, a promise that our sins are forgiven.
The cost of this forgiveness is Jesus’ blood, poured out for you, poured out for us.
This is why it is a special meal, something to remember how much God loves us.
It is a time for sadness because Jesus had to die for our great and many sins.
It is a time for celebration because Jesus chose to die for our great and many sins.
It is a meal of remembrance and thanksgiving.
