2023 Holy Week Liturgy | Day 3
Holy Tuesday | Foundations of a New Kingdom
BASED ON PSALM 118 & JOHN 2:19-22
The people wanted to know who Jesus was; they asked for a sign to help them understand.
Jesus replied, “Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days”.
It made no sense to them, how could Jesus raise up a massive stone building in three days?
Jesus wasn’t talking about the temple, he was talking about himself.
He is the stone foundation of our worship, he is one we build our faith upon.
Secure the stone to the inside of the jar lid.
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this and it is marvelous in our eyes”
The rock in front of us represents the rejected stone, that is Jesus.
Why would people reject Jesus?
They did not understand what he was doing, they did not understand what he was teaching.
They were looking back, to the military kings of the past; to the glory of Solomon’s Temple.
The old ways were best they thought, we must go back.
Jesus invited them to move forward to something better, something marvelous.
We are invited to go forward with Jesus, too!
To build our lives on a firm foundation, that is faith in Jesus.
