“Glorifying God by serving members of our community through providing meals in times of need.”
The Meal Train is a ministry at Living Hope that provides practical care for its members through food. Interested in learning more? Check out the Q and A below.
- The meal train does not have any set requirements for who receives meals. It normally happens when abrupt changes happen in people’s schedule due to grief, the birth of a child, or surgery. Need for a meal is assessed case by case. Requests come through the district teams.
HOW MANY MEALS DO PEOPLE RECEIVE?
The goal is to provide 3 meals when a need arises.
WHO IS IN CHARGE?
There are two people in charge: the Needs Overseer and the Volunteer Coordinator.
1. NEEDS OVERSEER
When a need arises a form is filled out so the needs are communicated to the meal train coordinator. This work is done by the district teams. The District Teams are overseen by the chair of the District Elders. The Needs Overseer is to ensure that district teams are reporting needs in a timely manner. They also are attentive to people who have needs who may not be on a district list.
Needs Overseer: Ron Hoekstra (District Elder Chair)
2. VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
This person is in charge of ensuring that a schedule is put together and that meals are being provided for the needs as they come in. This person is a volunteer who serves independent from council involvement.
Volunteer Coordinator: Ashley Houweling
HOW DO PEOPLE GET ON THE LIST TO RECEIVE A MEAL?
To receive a meal a form must be filled out. The form requests all the relevant information needed to provide a meal (address, dietary preferences, etc.). This form is to be filled out by someone in their district team.
WHERE IS THIS FORM FOUND?
The Meal Train Need form can be found by clicking on this link: https://livinghopecrc.breezechms.com/form/mealtrain
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A FORM IS SUBMITTED FOR SOMEONE TO RECEIVE A MEAL?
The Volunteer Coordinator connects with this person in seeing which dates would work best. They put this into a schedule and then send it to our meal making volunteers. These meal makers need to fill in a date where they will provide a meal. Please note: Once the schedule is released, we have made a commitment to the person/family in providing a meal.
HOW DO I GET ON THE LIST OF PEOPLE WHO MAKE MEALS FOR OTHERS?
We have a form for that as well: https://livinghopecrc.breezechms.com/form/meal-train-volunteerFilling out this Meal Train Volunteer form will notify our Volunteer Coordinator that you’re interested in being added to the Meal Train Volunteer list.
WHAT DO i DO IF I KNOW OF A NEED, AND I AM UNSURE IF A FORM HAS BEEN SUBMITTED?
Contact the Needs Overseer. This person will ensure the form gets filled out by the appropriate people.
