Fall Newsletter Excerpt | Learning Together Opportunities
Part of growing together involves learning. This fall there are two special opportunities to learn from people that we’ve invited to speak on two different topics.
Learning Together | Which Children’s Bible Should I Read?
Which children’s Bible is the best one? What happens when our children’s Bibles omit certain stories or interpret other stories in ways incongruent to the Bible? How do we read the Bible together meaningfully as a family? To help us respond to questions like this, Rachel Wilkowski will be joining us. Beyond her experience in running a children’s program at her church, Rachel is an expert in this field, having recently completed her doctoral work at Trinity College in Dublin on children’s Bibles. We look forward to hosting her on Sunday, October 19 at 3pm where she will share some of her knowledge and we will have some time for Q & A afterwards. Keep your eyes peeled for further information on this event!
Learning Together | Christian Sports?
Sport has an undisputed place in our culture and our lives. Whether you look at the rapt attention of fans watching a game or look at how much of parents’ lives can be consumed driving their children to games and practices – the impact of sport in our lives is almost unavoidable. Looking at Christian engagement with sport, it often doesn’t look all too different than our non-Christian neighbours. Which makes one think: what difference does being a Christian make? Is there a good Christian foundation for the enjoyment of sport as either a fan or athlete? To help us respond to some of these questions, Reuben Hoetmer will be joining us this fall (Thursday, November 20 @ 7pm) for a discussion evening hosted by our youth! Reuben is a high school teacher who played college football and recently finished his doctorate in sport and theology at Oxford. Stay tuned for additional details.
