2024 Summer Newsletter Excerpt | Continue Learning: Technology
Written by Pastor Steve Berkenpas, Lead Pastor
In looking at the challenges we are facing in our culture today – technology is near the top of the list. Technology is advancing so rapidly that we don’t always know how to respond. So much of our response to items in our culture relies on the collective wisdom from previous generations, but with the rate of change happening so fast it feels like we are in a territory where we are forced to forge ahead on our own. We face so many questions like:
- The internet in our homes forms us as consumers because we can buy almost anything at anytime. How do we respond to this as Christians?
- How do we push against unhealthy sexuality when distorted views of sexuality proliferate online?
- How do we find a way of being present and in relationship with others in a world full of distraction with our devices?
The list could go on. In the midst of this, it is good to pay attention to the people who are taking time to explore this deeply from a biblical and theological perspective. This July 8-12, I (Pastor Steve) am getting a chance to do just that. I will be auditing a course at Regent taught by Andy Crouch, author of The Tech-Wise Family and The Life We’re Looking For: Reclaiming Relationship in a Technological World. Interested in learning more about this course or have some questions on technology and Christian living that you think I should be taking to the course? Reach out to me on a Sunday or contact me through email at steve@livinghopecrc.ca.
IN YOUR CALENDAR
In August Pastor Steve will host an evening to discuss the course and reflect on technology and our response as singles, families, parents, children – all stiving to live faithfully as Christians. Stay tuned for the date!
